Meet Gwyneth – Guitar and Bass Teacher

Meet Gwyneth, Maxx Music Band Leader, Guitar and Bass Guitar Teacher.

Meet Gwyneth Jansen, Maxx Music Band Leader,  guitar and bass guitar teacher. She has 5 years experience in teaching and live performance and is studying music at the prestigious Sydney Conservatorium of Music! Gwyneth is very passionate about being a role model for young female guitarists and being in a position to inspire the next generation to join her as a professional musician!  Gwyneth is currently teaching at both our Rouse Hill and Castle Hill Music Schools.

Gwyneth took the time to tell us a bit more about herself.

How did you get into music?

I started playing guitar about 13 years ago when Taylor Swift was my idol (still is!) and she was in her country music days. About 3 years in, my father introduced me to the wonders of heavy metal and I switched out my acoustic for an electric guitar and have been playing heavy metal ever since.

Do you play in a band?

In my spare time, I am the lead guitarist for the death metal band Decharot, who I’ve been working with since 2022.

I’m also currently studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music completing a Bachelors in Music and Contemporary Music Practice.

Who are your musical influences?

Outside of my love for metal artists such as Megadeth, Iron Maiden and Slipknot; I love a wide range of music from flamenco, middle eastern oud and more eclectic genres like Mongolian folk metal. I am inspired by guitar virtuosos such as Steve Vai, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker and Nita Strauss. These Artists have taught me how to develop and teach advanced technical skills on the electric guitar such as sweep picking, tapping and most importantly: how to shred! I have taught bass guitar, acoustic, electric and ukulele and I love to share my passion for metal and help students to have the confidence to rock out!

Find out more about Gwyneth and her experiences in the music industry as a female artist in our Empowering Voices: International Women’s Day blog post.
