At Maxx Music, we are always excited to bring new talented musicians onboard to inspire and teach the next generation of musicians. In this Teacher Profile, we are excited to introduce you to Zach Zarzecki, one of our new guitar and bass guitar teachers. You can find him working at our Castle Hill Music School.
A Short Biography
Zach has been playing a variety of instruments since he was 8 years old. Whilst that has mostly been electric guitar, he also plays classical guitar, drums, vocals, piano and the euphonium! He has a shelf-full of awards for music attained during his school music career and has been performing in bands and as a solo artist for several years. He is currently studying music and sound design at university and has a bright future in music ahead of him.
We took a few minutes to have a chat to find out more about him.
Are you in a band at the moment?
I play guitar in two bands at the moment: Emmirose, and Pretty Visitors. Both bands play mainly rock, but Emmirose leans more towards R&B at times, whereas Pretty Visitors sits more in the grunge genre. Emmirose has original music up on Spotify which you can check out 🙂
Who are your musical heroes, and how have they influenced you?
Brian May from Queen comes to mind as one of my all-time favourite guitarists; the expression in his guitar playing and the emotions he gets out of the instrument have always spoken to me. The way he uses several layers of guitars to create orchestras and larger compositions is something that’s always inspired me in my own songwriting.
Radiohead have also been a band that constantly inspires me with their level of artistry and how experimental their music is. They’re never afraid to push boundaries and bend genres to create new styles. And, much like Brian May, Radiohead are very good at conveying complex emotions through their music, something I always aspire to do.
How do you handle critiques and negative feedback?
To me, music isn’t a competition to find out who’s better than who, rather it’s about expressing yourself in a way YOU enjoy. Although being technically skilled or making music that everyone enjoys can be nice, it shouldn’t always be the goal. As long as you’re enjoying yourself, regardless of skill level, anyone’s criticism becomes meaningless. And oftentimes, people only criticise you because they’re jealous that they can’t do the same 🙂
