Meet Carly, one of the newest additions to the Maxx Music teaching team!
Based at our Castle Hill studio, Carly is excited to share her love of the flute and help her students discover the joy of making music. We asked her a few questions to help you get to know her a little better.
Why I teach flute
I love to teach flute because I believe music isn’t only for ‘gifted’ individuals; anyone can be a great musician with dedication and practice. I want to help students feel confident that they can play any piece they set their mind to and help them to build skills to achieve their goals in music.
What was the first music piece that inspired me?
In Year 7, my dad showed me a flute piece called ‘Meditation’ composed by Jules Massenet, and I completely fell in love with it. It was probably slightly too difficult for me, but I persevered in learning it, and 2 years later I played it for my first performance assessment in Year 9.
Tell us about a moment you felt you ‘Made it’ as a musician?
My biggest achievement, and the moment I felt like a professional musician, was playing 1st flute in the pit of the musical ‘Mary Poppins.’ Playing with veteran musicians in a musical with such beautiful music was one of the most profound experiences of my music career.
Can you recommend an album everyone should listen to?
The Great Divide by Noah Kahan
Tell us about a truly unforgettable concert
There are so Many! I saw Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Nutcracker’ at the Sydney Opera House and the orchestra was absolutely mesmerizing. I watched them play more than the ballet dancers. I also saw Les Misérables in concert at the ICC, with music played by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. The oboe player brought tears to my eyes, and their solo at the end is a piece I’ll never forget.
