Teacher Profile: Meet Manu, Maxx Music Piano Teacher

photo of Manu, a Maxx Music piano teacher standing in the music schoolMeet Manu Jayakodi, one of Maxx Music’s awesome piano teachers.  Manu joined our team at the beginning of this term and has mostly been teaching at our Rouse Hill Music School.  He has been playing piano for 11 years and is also a singer!  Prior to working at Maxx Music, Manu provided private tutoring, helping students prepare for exams and assessments. When he isn’t teaching piano, Manu is studying for a degree in engineering.

We took a few minutes to have a chat to find out more about him.

Why did you decide to teach music?

I decided to teach music because it combines my passion for creativity and education. Music has always been a significant part of my life, and I wanted to share that joy with others while also fostering their musical talents and appreciation. Teaching music allows me to inspire students and nurture their artistic expression. Ultimately, I find immense fulfillment in guiding students on their musical journey and witnessing their growth and achievements.

How have your musical tastes and influences changed over the years?

Over the years, my musical tastes and influences have evolved significantly. While I used to gravitate towards pop music and rap, I’ve recently found myself drawn to R&B, slow rap, and even classical music. This shift has been a result of exploring new genres, discovering unique sounds, and appreciating the depth and complexity of different musical styles. As I continue to broaden my musical horizons, I find that each genre offers its own distinct beauty.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians based on your own experiences?

I would advise aspiring musicians to stay dedicated, patient, and open-minded. Practice regularly and don’t be afraid to take risks and explore new musical territories. Surround yourself with supportive mentors, peers, and opportunities for growth. Embrace failure as a stepping stone to success and never lose sight of your passion and love for music.

What’s your go-to song or artist when you need a boost?

My go-to artist for a mood lift is Tyler, the Creator. His lyrics and beats are phenomenal.  His IGOR album, in particular, never fails to lift my spirits. The way he combines elements of different genres is truly captivating and makes for a unique listening experience.  There’s something about his authenticity and creativity that resonates with me, making his music my go-to.
